Editorial & Verification Policy — SurgeryBD

Welcome to SurgeryBD (SurgeryBangladesh.com). We are Bangladesh’s dedicated directory built exclusively for surgeons — not a general doctor listing site. Our mission is to help patients find verified, qualified surgical specialists quickly, and to give surgeons a free, professional online presence. SurgeryBD is a non-profit initiative: browsing is completely free for patients, and profile registration and claiming is completely free for surgeons. To earn and maintain the trust of both patients and the surgical community, we follow the strict editorial and verification standards outlined below.

1. Our Scope: Surgeons Only

Unlike broader medical directories, SurgeryBD is intentionally focused. We list surgeons across all surgical disciplines (e.g., General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiac Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, ENT Surgery, Urology, Pediatric Surgery, and other surgical specialties). We do not list non-surgical practitioners, dentists, or unrelated healthcare categories — this focus allows us to maintain deeper accuracy and relevance within our chosen field.

2. Content Creation & Expert Review Process

To ensure medical accuracy, our informational content passes through a multi-step process:

  • Research & Drafting: Content is compiled using authoritative sources such as the WHO, DGHS Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC), and peer-reviewed surgical literature.
  • Medical Review: Before publication, articles and specialty guides are reviewed for accuracy by qualified medical contributors familiar with surgical practice in Bangladesh.
  • Fact-Checking: Any statistic, procedure description, or clinical detail is cross-checked against standard medical references or official health directives before it goes live.

3. Sourcing and Citations

We do not publish rumors or unverified claims. Our content draws strictly from:

  • Official guidelines from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Bangladesh
  • Global authorities such as the World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Peer-reviewed surgical and medical journals
  • Policy Rule: Where relevant, primary sources are cited or linked at the end of an article.

4. Core Principles & Directory Integrity

SurgeryBD does not scrape outdated public data or auto-generate listings. Every surgeon profile is either submitted directly by the surgeon (or an authorized representative) or built from information we have made reasonable efforts to verify. Because the platform is free and non-profit, we have no commercial incentive to inflate listings or misrepresent credentials — our only priority is accuracy and usefulness for patients.

5. Profile Submission & Verification Process

  • Free Registration: Any licensed surgeon practicing in Bangladesh may register or claim their profile on SurgeryBD at no cost, with no hidden fees at any stage.
  • Credential Verification: During registration, surgeons are asked to provide their academic qualifications, surgical specialization(s), and professional registration details (BMDC registration number). Our team reviews these details before a profile is published or a claim is approved.
  • Profile Claiming: Surgeons who find an existing (unclaimed) listing for themselves can claim it for free after verifying their identity and credentials, giving them control to keep their information accurate.

6. Proactive Data Maintenance & Updates

Surgical practices, chamber locations, and consultation hours change often. To keep listings current:

  • Routine Outreach: Our team periodically contacts listed surgeons or their chamber/hospital staff to confirm details such as visiting hours, chamber address, and consultation fees.
  • Surgeon-Driven Updates: Verified surgeons can update their own profile directly at any time — free of charge — without waiting for our outreach cycle.

7. Community Reporting & Error Resolution

We encourage patients and surgeons alike to help us stay accurate. If you notice incorrect information about a chamber address, contact number, visiting hours, or fees:

  • Reports can be submitted via Email, WhatsApp, our website contact form, or our official Facebook page.
  • Our team investigates each report, verifies it directly with the surgeon’s office where possible, and applies corrections promptly.

8. Non-Profit Status & Independence

SurgeryBD operates as a free, non-profit public service. We do not charge patients to search or contact surgeons, and we do not charge surgeons to register or claim their profile.

  • If the platform ever carries advertising or sponsorships to help cover running costs, any such content will be clearly labeled as “Ad” or “Sponsored.”
  • Commercial arrangements, if any, will never influence verification standards, search ranking, or which surgeons appear in listings. We do not endorse specific products, brands, or treatments.

9. User Reviews and Rating Management (if enabled)

Where patient reviews or ratings are enabled on surgeon profiles, we moderate them to protect both patients and surgeons:

  • Manual Screening: Reviews are checked before publication; spam, fake accounts, personal attacks, and unsubstantiated claims are rejected.
  • Authentic Feedback Only: We take steps to detect and remove fabricated or incentivized reviews.
  • Protection from Abuse: Malicious reviews intended to harm a surgeon’s reputation (e.g., from competitors) are investigated and removed if confirmed.
